2019 opened with some big changes as I moved to a new studio and the family moved to a home. (mind you, new to us!) As we had been settled into our previous rental for about five years, living and working space in one, the change was a considerable undertaking. Much to everyone’s surprise, we were able to find a studio space and house about a blocks distance from one another, owned by a husband and wife team that manage their properties very well. Thus, allowing for a happy (less disturbed) family, and happy (less distracted) Kristy!
ABOUT THE STUDIO: The new Opulent Fibers studio is located in a small commercial building in Gladstone, just 15 mins south of Portland, OR. The studio has two floors with ample workspace for wet and dry work, a covered outdoor patio for woodworking and storage, and small yard for sipping tea in the sun. With the help of my landlord, we’ve upgraded to a large water heater and added a studio bathtub to create a felting super-room! Everything has been thoughtfully designed for a working felting studio with all of the amenities and a flood of natural light from the south side.
NEIGHBORHOOD: I am located on a main street in the small town of Gladstone, at the crux of the Clackamas and Willammette rivers. There is an Indian restaurant, a gourmet pizza shop, coffee shop, and convenience store all within a few blocks walk. A bigger highlight, however, is the Clackamas river just a minute walk from my studio door. Walking paths and picnic spots are plentiful and have become a destination for lunch and dog walking breaks.
GETTING HERE: Students and visitors will fly into PDX International Airport. Hwy 205 is a major artery running just along the east side of the city which takes you from the airport to within just a few blocks of my studio. It is easy to rent a car from the airport or hire transportation through a taxi service or Lyft (or Uber). The drive is 25 minutes with light to medium traffic. Plan for more time during commute hours.
VISITING: I am happily open by appointment. Please email to schedule a visit. Studio address: 135 W Arlington St., Gladstone, OR 97027
Speaking of family…
Olivia will be working in the studio with me this spring and summer before heading off to college in August… Taking all I can get of her!
